Finnish distance runner, Paavo Nurmi was one of the most dominant runners of the 1920s.
On January 6th he made his mark in track and field history when he broke the indoor 5,000 meter record as well as the indoor 1 mile record. He ran a 4:13.6 in the mile and a 14:44.6 in the 5,000 meter.
Nurmi had a very successful career where he won nine gold medals and three silver medals at the 1920,1924 and 1928 Olympics and set a whopping 22 world records.
